The average policy last year cost nearly 1500 euro.
Pensioners are paying 42 percent more for health insurance when compared to other age groups.
The Health Insurance Authority also found average health insurance premiums last year were nearly 1500 euro.
It comes as Irish Life Health recently announced an average 5 percent rise in its premiums.
