Russian Ambassador Says Irish Government "Cannot Be Treated As A Friendly One"

Any attempts by the Irish Defence Forces to board Russian shadow fleet boats would be considered an 'act of international piracy', by Russia.

That's the view of the country's Ambassador to Ireland.

His comments come amid growing tensions between the EU and Russia in the wake of the attempted drone attack on Leipzig airport last month.

Germany blamed Russia for that attack , prompting the Department of Foreign Affairs to summon the Russian Ambassador to a meeting with officials over the issue.

Yuri Filatov had this to say on his country's previous warning of serious consequences for Ireland if their ships are boarded:

The Taoiseach says the Russian Ambassador is in no position to lecture the government over its stance on the war in Ukraine.
