Union responds to report highlighting a 30% pay disparity between public and private healthcare assistants in Ireland
SIPTU is calling for robust collective bargaining rights for workers in Ireland.
It comes as a new report from the European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU) has revealed a significant pay gap between Health Care Assistants in the public and private sectors.
The Report, Wage Watch: A Comparative Study of Health Care Assistant and Nurse Wages Across Europe, found a 30% wage gap between HCAs employed in public and private settings in Ireland.
Sharon Cregan, SIPTU Sector Organiser, believes there's only one way to address the gap.
