Move aims to ease pressure on GP services by expanding pharmacist care.
People will be able to claim 20% tax relief on certain healthcare services provided by pharmacists from tomorrow.
Until now, the relief could only be claimed for services such as GP visits and medications prescribed by a doctor.
The change will allow people to claim relief on consultations with pharmacists and medicines prescribed under the Common Conditions Service (CCS).
The service, introduced in January, allows pharmacists to assess and treat eight common conditions, including cold sores, conjunctivitis, shingles and uncomplicated urinary tract infections.
It is aimed at freeing up GP appointments for patients with more complex medical needs.
More than 94% of community pharmacies are expected to be providing the service by the end of the month.
Tanaiste and Finance Minister Simon Harris says it will encourage people to talk to pharmacists, so GP’s can deal with those with more complex health needs;
