Latest CSO report shows rise in planning permissions nationally with Kildare topping house approvals in Q4.
New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the number of homes granted planning permission in Ireland increased in 2025, with Kildare recording the highest number of house approvals in the final quarter of the year.
The CSO’s Planning Permissions report shows 34,974 dwelling units were granted planning permission nationally in 2025, a 7.9% increase on the 32,401 approved in 2024.
House approvals rose by 7.3%, while apartment permissions increased by 8.8% during the year.
Kildare figures
In Quarter 4 of 2025, 421 houses were granted planning permission in Kildare, the highest figure for any local authority in the country, accounting for 9% of all house approvals nationally.
Meath followed with 414 units, while Dublin and Cork each recorded just over 400 approvals.
Kildare also saw 202 apartments granted planning permission during the quarter, representing 6% of the national total.
Across Ireland, 8,208 homes were granted planning permission in the final three months of 2025, a 19% increase on the same period in 2024.
Housing approvals rise nationally
Overall, 20,615 houses were granted planning permission in 2025, the highest annual total in 16 years.
The number of homes approved under Strategic Housing Developments (SHD) also increased, rising 28% to 13,321 units during the year.
Meanwhile, Dublin continued to dominate apartment development, accounting for 51% of all apartment approvals nationwide.
