Templemore Capacity Doubts Cast Shadow Over Government’s 1,000 Garda Recruitment Plan

Yesterday, the Government announced a 77 million euro budget to recruit the one thousand trainees, after failing to meet the same target last year.

The Justice Minister remains hopeful of recruiting one thousand Gardaí next year.

That's despite the Garda Recruitment Training Capacity Group reporting Templemore College does not have the capacity to train the additional members every year.

Yesterday, the Government announced a €77 million euro budget to recruit the one thousand trainees, after failing to meet the same target last year.

Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan says additional funding should increase capacity at the Garda College.
