Both women are aged in their twenties.
Two young women are in critical conditions in hospital following a road traffic collision near Dundalk.
The women, aged 21 and 23, were both rear seat passengers in a car which hit a tree on the N53 in Rassan at around 8.30 last night.
The driver of the car and a front seat passenger who were both male and aged in their late teens, were not hurt.
The road remains closed this morning while Garda Forensic Collision Investigators examine the scene.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses who were travelling on the N53 between 8 and 9 PM last night to contact them, especially anyone who may have dash cam footage.
