The talented athlete played a key role in helping her Spanish team, Baxi Ferrol, secure a spot in the FIBA EuroCup Women final after a 156-136 aggregate victory over French side LDLC ASVEL Féminin. Despite a 74-63 loss in the second leg in Lyon, Baxi Ferrol’s dominant first-leg performance was enough to see them through.
Melia had already made history in that first leg, becoming the first Irishwoman to play at this stage of European club competition. She also led the scoring for Baxi Ferrol with 27 points, inspiring a stunning upset over the defending champions. In Thursday’s second leg, she contributed 13 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.
Now, the Kildare star is set for another milestone as Baxi Ferrol prepare to face Villeneuve d’Ascq LM in the two-legged final. The first match takes place in Spain on March 26, with the return leg in France on April 2.
