Monday Morning Sports Update

GAA

Four Kildare teams were in football, hurling and camogie action at the weekend.

On Saturday evening, Kildare footballers faced a crucial game at home to Meath

However, Meath ran out 14 points winners with a final score of 1-21 to 0-10.

In the Division 2 Table: Kildare are sixth on 3 points, two points below Tyrone, one above Cavan, and Offaly are bottom with zero points

Games to come are away to table toppers Cork on March 14th and home to Louth on the 22nd.

 

Yesterday, Kildare hurlers were away to bottom of the table Down in Division 1B.

It finished Kildare 3-24 Down 1-23.

The win moves Kildare to 4 points and fourth in the table, above Antrim, Carlow and Down.

Kildare’s remaining matches are home to Carlow on March 8th, and away to 2nd place Wexford on March 21st.

 

In Division 1, of the Lidl Ladies football League, Kildare's Division 1 survival hopes are improved after a seven points win over Meath 4-8 to 1-10.

Kildare’s goals were from Gillian Wheeler, Maya Doyle, Alannah Prizeman and Aoife Murnane

Aoife Rattigan scored 7 points - five from frees

Kildare now have  4 points on the table, in seventh position of 8.

Their remaining games are away to Waterford on March 21st and home to Kerry the following week

 

In the Centra Camogie League Division 3A , Kildare were home to Armagh on Saturday and won 2-10 to 1-6

Kildare top the table on 6 points, on a score difference of +7 points over Tyrone

Next up for Kildare is home to 2nd place Tyrone on March 21st

 

SOCCER

Arsenal beat 10-man Chelsea 2-1 and go five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Manchester United are up to third, after beating Crystal Palace 2-1.

Spurs lost 2-1 at Fulham. 

Nottingham Forest lost 2-1 away to Brighton.

 

Celtic came back from 2-nil down to draw 2-all with Rangers at Ibrox.

Celtic are eight points behind leaders Hearts, with a game in hand.
 

GOLF

Shane Lowry suffered heartbreak at the Cognizant Classic after surrendering a three-shot lead over the closing stretch in Florida.

The Offaly native was in control at 19-under with three to play, but a costly double bogey at the 16th - followed by another at the par-three 17th - turned the tournament on its head.

Both errors came after tee shots found the water.

Lowry steadied himself with a par at the last for a final-round 68, but it left him in a three-way tie for second.

Colombia’s Nico Echavarria took full advantage to seal a two-shot victory and claim his third PGA Tour title.

 

RUGBY

Harry Byrne has been ruled out of Ireland's Six Nations match against Wales.

The Leinster out-half suffered a concussion at the weekend

Bundee Aki and Eadestown’s Jimmy O’Brien have rejoined the squad.

 

HOCKEY
Ireland opened their qualification campaign for the men's hockey World Cup with a 5-2 win over Canada  in Chile.
