Full Time Score; Meath 1-21 Kildare 0-10
Meath delivered a dominant Division 2 display with their first win in Newbridge over Kildare since 2000.
It was a result that was never really in doubt.
Meath opened against the strong wind, and Jack O'Connor scored two points from play as they led 0-4 to 0-1 by the 10th minute. Two minutes later, they scored the game’s only goal.
Aaron Lynch flicked on a long ball and although Kildare goalkeeper Cian Burke knocked the ball out of Jordan Morris’s hands as he tried to round him, the eventual man of the match pounced on the loose ball on the goal line and shot home.
O’Connor and Frayne added points either side of O’Connor’s third as Meath moved into a 1-7 to 0-1 lead.
Kildare kicked two two-pointers in quick succession from Darragh Kirwan and Brian McLoughlin after 20 minutes.
But Meath, with the wind to come at their backs in the 2nd half, were in control and ed 1-9 to 0-5 at half-time, with Kildare having kicked some very poor wides.
Kildare scored consecutive points by Colm Moran and Jake Loakman in the 41st and 43rd minutes, but were never going to win this game.
In the end, it was a completely dominant display that shows Meath are very much on the right track as they move to eight points after five games.
Kildare are in relegation trouble, and things don’t get any easier for them as they have an away tie against Cork up next, followed by Louth at home.
