GOLF

Rory McIlroy has strengthened his claim as the greatest European golfer of all time after retaining the Masters.

The Northern Irishman remains the only European to have won all four majors, further underlining his place among the game’s all-time greats.

Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald says McIlroy is now “undoubtedly the best European golfer ever”.

Shane Lowry will have to reflect on what could have been.

On 8 under at the beginning of the final round, he faded to end in a tie for 30th on 1 under par.

 

GAA

It’s a key week for Kildare senior footballers and hurlers.

The four Leinster football quarter finals will be played next Sunday.

Following Laois's 3-12 to 0-12 Leinster Championship win over Offaly, they will be Kildare's quarter final opponents next Sunday at 3.45pm in Newbridge.

Wicklow footballers beat Carlow by 2-15 to 1-7 and will be home to Dublin in the quarter final at 3pm.

Westmeath will play Meath in Glenisk O’Connor Park, Tullamore, at 2pm. 

Louth will play Wexford in Netwatch Cullen Park at 2.30pm.

 

Armagh survived going down to 14 men to edge Tyrone in the Ulster Football Championship by 1-17 to 1-16 after extra time.

Cork beat Limerick and will play Tipperary in the Munster football semi finals, after Tipp’s 15 points to 1-7 win over Waterford.

Kerry will play Clare in the other semi final.

The Connacht semi finals are Leitrim vs Galway and Roscommon vs Mayo.

 

On Saturday, Kildare Under 20 hurlers lost to Galway by 1-19 to 0-9, Kildare will play Wexford on Wednesday week.

This morning's Kildare Today and this evening’s Kildare Scoreboard, from 6.25, will review the match.

 

SOCCER

Manchester City have cut Arsenal's advantage at the top of the Premier League to six points with a 3-nil win at Chelsea.

Pep Guardiola's men still have a game in hand on the leaders who they play next Sunday.

Tottenham missed the chance to climb out of the bottom three with a 1-nil defeat at Sunderland.

Nottingham Forest edged closer to safety with a 1-all draw against Aston Villa.

Newcastle conceded two late goals losing 2-1 away to Crystal Palace.
