Rep. Ireland U21s Get Euro Qualifying Campaign Back To Winning Ways; Ciara Griffin Retires From International Rugby

Wales to be seeded in World Cup play-offs next March

SOCCER

The Republic of Ireland Under 21's have got their Euro qualifying campaign back on track.

They beat Sweden 1-0 in Tallaght last night with Ollie O'Neill scoring with the last kick of the game.

The Under 19's are into the Elite phase of Euro qualifying after they beat Bulgaria 2-0.


Wales will be seeded for the World Cup play-offs next March.

They held Belgium to a 1-1 draw in Cardiff.

The Netherlands have qualified for the finals in Qatar following a 2-0 win over Norway.

12 teams will battle it out in the play offs next March, for 3 places at the finals.

The seeded teams:

Wales, Scotland, Italy, Portugal, Russia and Sweden.

The unseeded teams:

Turkey, Poland, North Macedonia, Ukraine, Austria and the Czech Republic.

RUGBY

Ireland women's captain Ciara Griffin has retired from the international set up.

Saturday's test against Japan will be the 27 year old's 41st and final game for her country.

The Kerry flanker has yet to decide if she will play on for Munster or UL Bohs.

It was an emotional decision for Griffin:

The Central Council of the GAA will decide this weekend whether to bring back pre-season inter-county competitions for 2022.
