It's All Ireland Final Day for the Kildare Minor Ladies

GAELIC GAMES

The Kildare Minor Ladies team are gearing up for an All Ireland Under 18 Football Final.

They take on last year’s runners up Galway in Longford this afternoon.

Kildare are appearing in the very first Minor A Final, but they have already beaten the defending champions Cork.

Goal from Edwin Birchall and Allanah Prizeman handed them a 2 point victory over Rebels in last month’s semi finals.

Throw in at Pearse Park is at 2.00.

Spain have reached the quarter-finals of the Women's World Cup for the first time.

They beat Switzerland 5-1 in  Auckland this morning.

Japan beat Norway 3-1 in their last 16 match.

 

St. Patrick's Athletic are just a point off the top of the SSE Airtricity Premier Division following a 2-nil win at Sligo Rovers

Bohemians had a 4-2 win at home to Drogheda.


RUGBY

Ireland’s road to the World Cup begins this evening at the Aviva Stadium.

They take on Italy in the first of three warm-up matches.

There’s a first international start for lock Joe McCarthy, while Jack Crowley gets the chance to impress at out-half.

Eadestown's Jimmy O’Brien will line out at full back, while Tadhg Beirne is on the bench.

Kick-off at Lansdowne Road is at 8.00

Three of Ireland’s World Cup pool opponents are also in action today.

Scotland welcome France to Murrayfield, with kick-off at 3.15.

Romania play the United States in Bucharest.

Nurney flanker Patrick Ryan has been named in the Eagles in the back row.

South Africa have made the trip to Buenos Aires to play Argentina.

 

 


PARA CYCLING

Katie-George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal won bronze for Ireland last night at the Para Cycling Track World Championships.

They beat the French duo in the WB Individual Pursuit bronze medal ride-off.

 


PARA SWIMMING

Roisin Ni Riain is hoping to win a third medal today at the Para Swimming World Championships in Manchester.

She goes in heat 2 of the 400-metre Freestyle S13 just after 9 this morning.

Should Ni Riain emerge from that heat, she’ll return for the final this evening.

Barry McClements is in heat-2 of the 100-metre Backstroke S9 after 11 this morning.

While Nicole Turner goes in the final of the 100-metre Breaststroke SB6 this evening in Manchester.

 


RACING

It’s the penultimate day of the Galway Festival, with an eight-race card underway at 1.55.

And the Stewards Cup is the feature on the final day at Glorious Goodwood - action there is underway at 1.50.
