Republic of Ireland international John Egan missed a penalty as Sheffield United exited the EFL Cup last night.

The Blades suffered defeat on spot kicks to Lincoln City, after a goalless draw at Bramall Lane.

Chelsea and Everton won by two goals to one against Wimbledon and Doncaster respectively.

Elsewhere, Blackburn thumped Harrogate 8-nil, while Burnley were 1-nil winners at Nottingham Forest.

In the third round draw, Manchester City have been drawn away to Newcastle while holders Manchester United will play Crystal Palace.

Liverpool are set to face Leicester while Arsenal will meet Brentford.

Among the other ties will be Chelsea's clash with Brighton, with Aston Villa set to go up against Everton.

The draw for the group stage of the Champions League takes place later today.

Rangers won't be in the hat, after a 5-1 hammering at the hands of PSV in the second leg of their playoff round tie last night.

The Dutch side were 7-3 winners on aggregate.

Aberdeen will look to make their way through to the group stage of the Europa League tonight.

The Scottish Premiership club take on Hacken of Sweden, with the tie level at two goals apiece after the first leg.

In the Conference League, Aston Villa take a 5-nil lead into the second leg of their tie with Hibernian.

Hearts trail PAOK 2-1 ahead of their meeting in Greece.

Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny is due to name his squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers today.

Aaron Connolly could be in line for a recall, having scored three times for Hull so far this season.
