ATHLETICS

Rhasidat Adeleke broke her own Irish 400-metres record in placing fifth in last night's European Championships final in Munich.

The Dublin teenager clocked a personal best time of 50-point-5-3 seconds but ran out of steam in the last 50-metres of the race.

It's a busy day ahead for Team Ireland with a host of Olympians in action on the track and on the water.

Having won his heat yesterday, Thomas Barr will be confident of reaching the final when he goes in the semi-finals of the 400-metres hurdles this morning.

Carlow's Marcus Lawler has his heat in the 200-metres with 2014 bronze medalist Mark English running in the heats of the 800-metres.

Andrew Coscoran competes in the 1500-metres final tonight with Roisin Flanagan taking her place in the women's 5000-metres decider.

And world silver medallist, Leixlip’s Jenny Egan has her heat in the Women's Single Kayak 500-metres event.

GAELIC GAMES

Dublin GAA have given their backing to their senior football manager Dessie Farrell by giving him a two-year extension.

Farrell led Dublin to the Sam Maguire in 2020 but they exited the All-Ireland Championship at the semi-final stage in the last two seasons.

Shamrock Rovers are without six first-team players for tonight's Europa League playoff round first leg at Ferencvaros.

Graham Burke, Chris McCann, Aidomo Emakhu, Ronan Finn, Roberto Lopes and Simon Power are all absent for Stephen Bradley's side for the clash with the Hungarian champions.

In better news for the Hoops, Republic of Ireland midfielder Jack Byrne is ready to start in the 5.30pm kick-off in Budapest.

Shelbourne begin their bid to qualify for the Women's Champions League this afternoon.

The Women's National League table-toppers are in Slovenia to face ZNK Pomurje in the penultimate round of qualifying for the group stages.

There's a strong Irish challenge for this afternoon's Darley Yorkshire Oaks at York.

Jessica Harrington saddles the Irish Oaks winner Magical Lagoon for the Group One, with Epsom heroine Tuesday carrying the chances of Aidan O'Brien.

While Paddy Twomey will run the Pretty Polly winner La Petite Coco in the big race, which goes to post at 3.35pm.

The going is good to yielding at Killarney this morning ahead of their eight race flat programme.

That card gets underway at half-four this afternoon.
