Derry City manager Ruaidhri Higgins says his side lacked a cutting edge in the final third last night.

The Candystripes lost 1-0 to Shamrock Rovers and are now seven points behind the Hoops in the race for the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division title.

Rory Gaffney netted the winning goal for the hosts at Tallaght Stadium.

Elsewhere, Dundalk came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with St. Pat’s at Oriel Park.

Daniel Kelly's equaliser cancelled out Conor Carty's first-half opener.

Dundalk played much of the second half with ten men after the dismissal of Rayaan Tulloch.

Roy Hodgson is set to remain on as manager of Crystal Palace.

The 75-year-old took over at Selhurst Park in March, and kept the club in the Premier League.

Hodgson initially agreed a deal until the end of last season, having replaced Patrick Vieira.

But it's understood he'll sign a new contract shortly.
