Croatia play Morocco this morning at 10am

SOCCER

Olivier Giroud  last night equalled Thierry Henry's goalscoring record with France.

The AC Milan striker brought his total to 51 with a brace in France's 4-1 win over Australia in Group D at the World Cup.

Kylian Mbappe and Adrien Rabiot scored the others as France began their World Cup defence in style.

Next up for them is a meeting with Denmark in Doha on Saturday afternoon.

Elsewhere yesterday, the Danes drew nil-nil with Tunisia, while Argentina suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia in Group C.

The other game in that Group was a goalless draw between Mexico and Poland.

Attention turns to Group F this morning, as beaten finalists of four years ago - Croatia - take on Morocco at the Al Bayt Stadium.

Kick off there is at 10am Irish time.

The other match in that Group has a 7pm start and sees Canada play their first World Cup game since 1986, with Belgium the opposition.

Four time World Cup winners Germany open their Group E account against Japan from 1pm.

And at 4 o'clock, 2010 champions Spain take on Costa Rica in Doha.

England's Harry Kane is going to have a scan on his right ankle today.

He sustained an injury during England's win over Iran on Monday.

England play the USA next on Friday night.

The 17 year reign of the Glazer family over Manchester United could soon come to a close.

It's reported they are to seek outside investment in the Premier League club, which could result in its eventual sale.

The Glazers have owned United since 2005, when they bought the club for €790-million.

Someone who definitely won't be at United after the World Cup is Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 37 year old has left Old Trafford with immediate effect, following his controversial television interview.

GAELIC GAMES

David Clifford has been nominated as Kerry football captain for 2023 by his club, East Kerry.

The footballer of the year takes over from Austin Stacks' Joe O’Connor.

It's tradition in Kerry that the reigning club champions get to nominate the following year's Kingdom skipper.

RACING

There's an eight-race card on the all weather at Dundalk this afternoon, with the first going to post at 2pm.
