Wednesday Morning Sport: Olatunde Becomes Fastest Irish Man In History.

Results from LGFA club championships round 2.

ATHLETICS

20 year old Israel Olatunde has become the fastest Irish man in history.

He broke Paul Hession's 15 year record by running a time of 10 point 1-7 seconds in the final of the 100 metres at the European Athletics Championships in Munich.

Olatunde finished 6th in the final.

Also on the track last night, Brian Fay was 8th in the 5000 metres final.

Rhasidat Adeleke is in the final of the 400 metres this evening.

This morning, Thomas Barr runs in the heats of the 400 metres hurdles, while Kate O'Connor competes in the heptathlon.

SWIMMING

Grace Hodgins is the first Irish swimmer in action on the final day of the European Championships in Rome - she goes in the heats of the 400 metre freestyle shortly.

Finn McGeever and Liam Custer both compete in the men's equivalent within the hour.

The diving continues this morning with both Tanya Watson and Ciara McGing in action in the 10 metre platform.

And at 5-past-5 this evening, Mona McSharry will be in lane 1 for the 50 metre breaststroke final.


SOCCER

Rangers drew 2-2 with PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of their Champions League play off at Ibrox last night.

The return game is in the Netherlands next Wednesday.


RUGBY

Former Irish rugby coach Joe Schmidt has been promoted to attack coach with New Zealand.

He'll work under head coach Ian Foster, who is to remain in his role for next year's World Cup in France.


HORSE RACING

There are 7 jumps races at Sligo today, with the first off at 5.25.
