The man is originally from Germany
A 49 year old Dublin-based man has gone on trial in Italy for the murder of his wife.
Daniel Belling, originally from Germany is accused of murdering 38 year old Xing Li while they were on a Mediterranean cruise in 2017.
Crew members realised Ms Li was missing during a routine passenger headcount, and prosecutors believe the father of three threw her body into the sea.
After 14 months in an Italian jail, Mr Belling was permitted to return to Ireland in 2018.
According to Italian law he is not required to attend his own trial, which will begin to hear from witnesses in the coming days.
