Fianna Fail Cllr. Rob Power announced the news in a Facebook post
The Department of Integration has entered into a contract with the new owners of The Gables in Newbridge to supply accommodation for 100 international protection applicants.
According to Fianna Fail Cllr. Rob Power, the Department has informed public representatives that the necessary fire certs are in place and IPAS are working with various bodies and NGOs to ensure the necessary support services are also brought in.
The residency will be made up entirely of young men seeking safety in the coming days/weeks.
The Dept of Social protection will work with them to attain PPS numbers, and after six months they will be entitled to work in the country.
The Gables Guesthouse and Leisure Centre was a family-run business for 25 years, but the owners retired from the business earlier this year.
