Kildare's Coroner is Head of the Medical Bureau of Road Safety.
Kildare's Coroner says there has been a "huge" increase in instances of drug-driving.
Prof. Denis Cusack is also head of the Medical Bureau of Road Safety.
The organisation says incidents of drug driving jumped by 11% in the first quarter of the year.
And there was a 37% rise in the number of blood and urine specimens submitted for drugs testing in 2020 compared with 2019.
Prof. Cusack, speaking to Kildare Today, says it can be a challenge keeping up with new kinds of drugs.
Prof. Cusack joined Clem Ryan on Wednesday's edition of the programme.
