Kildare addiction treatment facility, Cuan Mhuire, is warning of "devastation to the psyche" among users of synthetic cannabinoids.
The HSE describes these as lab made "drugs specifically designed to be copies of cannabis but do not contain THC.
They are part of a rapidly evolving market of Psychoactive Substances, the exact contents and effects of which are often unknown."
While Revenue reports seizures of substances to the value of synthetic cannabinoids have "rocketed" in a two year period.
There were 2 detections of the drug in 2018, worth just over €600, increasing to hauls valued at €51,000 in 2020.
Michael Guerin is a Senior Addiction Counsellor at Cuan Mhuire.
Speaking to Kildare Today, he says a significant number of young men report cannabis and cannibinoid use as children.
Michael Guerin joined Clem Ryan on Wednesday morning's edition of the programme.
