A tender for the development of the new playground in Baltinglass playground is due to go out this week.
Construction of the playground should take place over the coming months.
Funding for the new playground - along with the extension of the Riverside Walk and the development of a plaza area in the Town Park - was secured by Wicklow County Council in March 2023.
Work has already commenced on the Riverside Walk and the Town Park is expected to be completed by August 2024.
Kfm recently reported how the park is a no-go area for locals, with broken swings, graffiti and accessibility issues.
“I am delighted to have received confirmation from Wicklow County Council that the tender for the new Baltinglass playground will be going out this week and that construction of the playground should take place over the coming months,” Jennifer Whitmore TD said.
She added: "We saw for ourselves that most of the equipment in the park is damaged or unusable and work is needed to make the playground an accessible community space."
