Kildare South TD and Minister of State Martin Heydon commented: “Active travel schemes bring significant benefits to local areas helping to connect communities and improve people’s quality of life. B
"By investing in walkways and cycleways we create safe corridors for people to visit friends and family and get to local shops, schools, and amenities.
“The Programme for Government commits to furthering investment in active travel. Last year all of the money allocated to local authorities was drawn down and I am confident Kildare County Council will do the same this year.
“We have some excellent examples of active travel schemes here in Kildare and I look forward to seeing them develop further along with expanding infrastructure to more parts of the county.”
Kildare based Senator Fiona O’Loughlin commented; "In a post covid world we all have a renewed respect and love for our ourdoor amenities.”
“I am especially happy with the confirmation by my colleague Minister Jack Chambers that part of this funding will be allocated to the Safe Routes to School Programme," she added.
