Almost half of all vehicles detained by Gardaí over the St Brigid’s Bank Holiday weekend were driving without insurance, as an enhanced road safety operation uncovered widespread offences - including a speeding incident in Celbridge.
Gardai said more than 660 vehicles were detained nationwide during the operation, with around 50 per cent stopped for having no insurance.
Nearly 3,500 motorists were caught speeding, with Gardaí also arresting 193 drivers on suspicion of drink or drug driving, and detecting almost 400 people using mobile phones behind the wheel.
