The commencement of refurbishment works at the Shackleton Museum, Athy, took place today.
The project aims to develop one of the world’s leading polar museums, commemorating explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton.
With over €5 million euro from from the Department of Rural & Community Development and €1.5 million from Kildare County Council, the museum is set for completion in March 2025.
Local representatives emphasised the project's significance as a tribute to Shackleton's explorations.
The museum aims to showcase Athy's historic stages while delivering a modern building experience.
