The auction of Newbury Demesne in Carbury is taking place today, despite calls from a local group for it to be purchased by the Government.
They have expressed concern about future access to the lands, with a large element of folklore linked to it.
The auction is to take place today (Thursday July 9) at 3pm.
The site is 453 acres in total, with three acres of walled gardens aswell.
Speaking exclusively to Kfm news, David Shortall, member of the Carbury and Derrinturn Community Group, said that they have contacted numerous public representatives over the last few weeks about it.
He said that a number of local TDs and councillors had made contact with Minister of State at the Department of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation, Kevin 'Boxer' Moran, "on many occasions".
However, he says there has been no response as of yet.
He also said he had contacted the auctioneers with an email to them requesting a postponement of the auction.
"There was no reply so I called them yesterday to ask was there any update or response. I got an answering machine and they haven't replied."
He expressed the support that the idea has received, as the auction is set to take place in the coming hours.
"There has been pretty much unanimous positive support from community for the idea of state/community ownership of Newbury Demesne. I had one comment fed back to me secondhand that a family were dead-set against it but had no context .
I had two people who rang me to ask me detail on exactly what we were proposing but [we] have had literally dozens of messages saying this was a brilliant idea."
Speaking on Kildare Today, he said that the auction is "probably going to go ahead" despite over 750 signatures for a petition against it:
"The auction is probably going to go ahead, we haven't heard anything else."
"The person who buys this will be in no doubt as to how important the source of the Boyne is, how important Newbury hall and the land is to being at the epicenter of our community."
