Although no one is being sought by Gardaí, they are appealing for any witnesses who were in the Oaklawn West area early yesterday morning to come forward.
Gardaí say they are not looking for any other suspect after a woman was attacked with an axe by a man whose body was later found in the Leixlip Reservoir.
Their investigation began yesterday after being called to a house fire in Oaklawn West where a woman was found with serious injuries.
She is still being treated in hospital.
During a follow up search, the body of the man in his 50's was discovered.
It is understood that he was the woman's ex-partner.
The woman managed to flee the house before she was rushed to hospital.
