Speaking to Kfm, Journalist Stephen Breen said Dmitri Ceban, who has been on the run from the UK since 2021, was only arrested last week after he was caught speeding.
It was through a "stroke of luck" that Gardai caught a notorious rapist who is understood to have been hiding out in an unknown location in Kildare.

Ceban is part of a gang who raped a girl in Ealing in the UK in 2017.
The attack lasted over 90 minutes.
Ceban failed to show up to court in 2021 but received a 16-year sentence in his absence for rape.
He was was stopped last week for speeding on the M1 motorway.
He remains in Garda custody as the UK authorities seek his extradition.
Breen explained that Ceban was placed on Interpol’s most wanted list as he travelled from one location to another across Europe.
