Celbridge-Leixlip MD is set to write to the HSE and Department of Health following reports some residents in Celbridge are unable to register with a General Practitioner (GP) in the area.
It's due to capacity constraints in the town, as the need for infrastructure to match a growing population increases.
The MD is also seeking details regarding current GP and primary care capacity in the area, planned expansion of GP and primary care services, as well as measures available to assist residents without a GP.
It wishes to ask how healthcare infrastructure is being considered alongside ongoing residential development in the town.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Social Democrats Councillor for Celbridge-Leixlip MD Claire O' Rourke said the demand is "bursting at the seams".
"I'm hearing this from constituents constantly, the difficulty is we are a population that is growing and expanding, the building programme is very much ongoing.
"But the infrastructure such as access to healthcare is not growing, many people have contacted me about this issue that they cant register with a local GP."
Cllr O' Rourke remarked that the HSE once assisted people who had been struggling to access a GP after three attempts, but no longer offers that service.
In addition to writing to the HSE and Health Department, the issue will also brought to the Regional Health Forum, in an effort to identify more plans to improve healthcare capacity in the growing town.
