One property in Celbridge was described as a "ticking time bomb" after sloppy work left a gas leak.
A unregistered gas installer who carried out work on nine homes in Kildare and Dublin has avoided jail.
63-year-old Petros Tsiogas, of Beechfield Meadows, Clonee, was prosecuted by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities on 23 charges after continuing to operate despite being deregistered in 2021.
Judge Paul Kelly, according to the Irish Examiner, imposed a four-month sentence, suspended for two years, and fined him €500 with €750 in prosecution costs, provided he does not carry out any gas installations without proper registration.
