Elected initially as a Sinn Féin councillor, Cussen parted ways with the party in 2018 due to her pro-life stance and continued her work as an Independent councillor.
Councillor Ide Cussen, who represented the Celbridge Ardclough area, has announced she will not be contesting the upcoming Local Elections.
Citing ongoing medical challenges and the inability to commit fully to the role, Cussen expressed that the decision was made after much deliberation and on the advice given to her.
Cussen, who has served as a full-time councillor since 2014, shared that she had previously left her employment to dedicate herself entirely to the councillor role. "To me, the councillor role is a full-time role, one where you commit 100%. I am not in a position to commit to this role currently," she stated.
Elected initially as a Sinn Féin councillor, Cussen parted ways with the party in 2018 due to her pro-life stance and continued her work as an Independent councillor.
She was re-elected in 2019.
She expressed her best wishes to the candidates in the upcoming elections and her hopes for the continuation of key projects she has worked on.
"It has been a privilege to represent Celbridge, Leixlip, and Ardclough. Thank you to all who put your trust in me to represent our area," she said.
