The 'Vacant to Vibrant' programme would initially target 26 towns
A new initiative is being proposed to bring vacant shops back into use and revitalise town centres across the country.
The 'Vacant to Vibrant' programme would initially target 26 towns, matching empty premises with businesses needed locally.
Local authorities and enterprise offices would offer prospective business owners advice, mentoring and marketing support.
Junior Minister for Retail, Alan Dillon says empty shopfronts need to become thriving businesses.
Clane, Blessington in Wicklow and Enfield in Meath are the local areas hat could benefit from the new initiative.
Other towns included are Tullow, Bailieborough, Sixmilebridge, Skibbereen, Milford, Lusk, Gort, Milltown (Co Kerry), Urlingford, Rathdowney, Carrick-on-Shannon, Abbeyfeale, Longford town, Dunleer, Killala, Carrickmacross, Clara, Strokestown, Tubbercurry, Roscrea, Portlaw, Moate and New Ross.
