Clane local election candidate Eoin Coates has launched a petition calling on Kildare County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland to address the long running issue of traffic in Clane.
The petition has gathered over 100 signatures in the first 24 hours and calls on policymakers to do 4 things:
1) Build a bypass around the East side of Clane which will pick up HGVs from Kilcock/N4 as well as traffic coming in from Celbridge and Naas, making it easier to get home and removing cars and HGVs from the Main Street.
2) Remove some on-street parking on Main Street to ease traffic and give buses space to pull in and pick up passengers.
3) Ensure we have a bus service that shows up and has enough seats by allocating more frequent and bigger buses on all bus routes through Clane, especially the 120 and 139.
4) Build a new greenway along the River Liffey to link with cycle lanes in Sallins and allow people to get to Sallins train station in 15-20 minutes by bike.
