The development at Green Alley is expected to provide atleast 30 units
A housing project providing at least 30 units in Athy has gotten underway.
The development at Green Alley is hoped to provide "much-needed" housing to the town, particularly for older people.
The units are expected to be completed by 2028, undertaken by Clúid Housing.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Labour Councillor for Athy MD Aoife Breslin says it will "bring life back to the area".
"It's fantastic news, much-needed, I think it will open the whole area up and bring life back to that area beside the [Grand] canal, the Barrow [river] and the library, and it's very suited to older people.
"We've had some good news in Athy in relation to housing, but there's a huge deficit there, the waiting lists in Kildare are huge, so we need to focus on housing and housing is the focus for me."
