In August 2025, Kfm understood that Kildare County Council were to spend almost €2million on purchasing the Naas castle
It has been confirmed that Kildare County Council are now in ownership of St David's Castle in Naas.
According to the council, the next step for the castle is a feasibility study to determine the most beneficial uses of the site, with procurement of a suitable consultant in Q3 of 2026.
The move comes nearly two decades after the council declined to purchase the property from the family of its last full-time resident, the late County Surgeon Dr Jack Gibson.
