The devlopment had been announced in 2022 by the then Housing Minister
Labour Councillor for Celbridge-Leixlip MD, Rupert Heather, has expressed dismay after the Housing Department halted a social housing project in Celbridge.
The project was due to have 60 homes in Oldtown Mill, and was described by the councillor as "shovel ready".
Cllr Heather had put forward a motion in last weeks council meeting for the council to write to the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, to "express our dismay" at the decision, in light of the "urgent housing need within the Celbridge area".
The development was announced in 2022 by the then Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien TD.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Cllr Heather said that if more wasn't done to ensure the project went ahead, that it would be "unacceptable".
In response, Kildare County Council said that it was too early to "provide definitive timelines for delivery".
In addition, they are engaging with the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage in recognition of the fact that "the project is already significantly advanced and has planning approval in place".
Kfm has contacted the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage for comment.
