The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon, has appointed David Mongey as the new Chairperson of the Board of the Irish National Stud (INS).
Announcing the appointment, Kildare South Fine Gael TD and Minister Martin Heydon said he was “delighted” to select Mongey for the role, highlighting his extensive experience across the thoroughbred and tourism sectors.
Mongey previously served as Chair of the INS Audit and Risk Committee, giving him strong familiarity with the organisation’s work.
“David has a wealth of experience in the thoroughbred industry and tourism sector and is well versed in the Stud’s activities,” the Minister said. “I wish David every success during his term of office and look forward to working closely with him over the next five years.”
Mongey takes over from the late Dan Flinter, who had chaired the board since 2023.
The Minister paid tribute to Flinter’s contribution, describing his tenure as significant for both the Stud and the wider Irish thoroughbred industry.
The appointment follows a competitive selection process overseen by publicjobs.
