Orchard Park residents says the area, and their gardens, is frequently invaded by sheep grazing on the plains.
The Dept. of Defence says it will consider the installation of fencing at a Curragh housing estate.
Orchard Park was formerly Defence Forces housing, and residents say the estate and their gardens are being invaded by sheep grazing on the Curragh.
The Dept., in response to questions by Kfm Radio, says it is in discussions with Kildare County Council about the taking-in-charge of the estate by the local authority.
It says " any works required by the Council to facilitate same, including provision of fencing if required by the local authority, will be considered by the Department."
"Q: Are there any plans to carry out this work and do you have a timeline on same? If not, can you outline the reasons as to why this work won’t be facilitated?
The Department of Defence is in discussions with Kildare County Council in relation to taking-in-charge the estate; any works required by the Council to facilitate same, including provision of fencing if required by the local authority, will be considered by the Department.
Q: Secondly, the residents say that new lamp posts were installed on the streets, however they have not yet been turned on and as such, a proportion of estate is in complete darkness at nighttime, and they have concerns that this will lead to a health and safety issue down the tracks. What are the reasons these lamp posts are not live yet and how long do you envisage it being before they are turned on?
Work commenced on the upgrading of street lighting in August and it is expected that same will be completed in the coming weeks."
