Kfm understands that a broken lock on a barrier at Laraghbryan cemetery carpark made it possible for a number of caravans to set up camp.

Fianna Fail TD Naoise O' Cearuil said he will ask Kildare County Council can install a coded gate at the cemetery.

He said said questions need to be asked about why a halting site in Maynooth is not being utilised, that the issue is about "engagement" to understand why members of the travelling community are using sites such as car parks.

He said an examination needs to be carried out to see if existing halting sites are "fit for purpose" and whether more are needed in the county.
