Once completed, the upgrades will provide the capacity needed to service up to 13,000 new homes
Major infrastructure works have kicked off in Maynooth as part of a €26 million investment to upgrade the town’s water and wastewater systems.
Uisce Éireann has launched two key projects—the Maynooth Transfer Pipeline and the Maynooth Water Network Upgrade—that aim to support population growth and future development in the area. Once completed, the upgrades will provide the capacity needed to service up to 13,000 new homes.
Local representatives, including Leas Cathaoirleach of Clane Maynooth Municipal District, Councillor Donna Phelan, and officials from Kildare County Council, gathered in the town this week to mark the start of the works, which are set to begin this summer.
The Transfer Pipeline project will see more than 9 kilometres of new sewer pipeline constructed, linking the existing Maynooth Wastewater Pump Station with the Leixlip Wastewater Treatment Plant. This will significantly boost the capacity of the current wastewater network and support both current and future development in Maynooth and nearby Kilcock.
Meanwhile, the Water Network Upgrade will involve laying 1.2 kilometres of new water mains along the R157 and Dunboyne Road. The works are designed to improve water supply to facilitate housing and commercial growth in North Maynooth.
The projects are being delivered by Coffey Construction on behalf of Uisce Éireann as part of its nationwide Growth and Development Programme.
Traffic management measures will be in place along the Dunboyne Road, the R157, and L1014/L1015 to facilitate the pipeline installation. Uisce Éireann says the works will be phased to reduce disruption, and local traffic updates will be issued ahead of time.
