Emeis Ireland, formerly Orpea, operates 27 private nursing homes in Ireland, including five in Kildare.
An investigation into two Emeis Ireland nursing homes has revealed serious care failings.
The undercover report, airing tonight at 9:35pm on RTÉ One, highlights distressing footage from The Residence in Portlaoise and Beneavin Manor in Dublin.
Staff shortages left one worker responsible for up to 23 residents, while some residents did not receive help going to the toilet.
One woman was left on the toilet with a broken call bell while the carer went on break.
Another resident waited 25 minutes after pleading for bathroom assistance.
In one case, a nurse was seen wiping her hands on a resident’s skirt.
Emeis Ireland, formerly Orpea, operates 27 private nursing homes in Ireland, including five in Kildare.
There is no suggestion that these issues occurred in Kildare homes owned by the company.
