The site before it was dismantled

The site - previously dismantled earlier this year - had seen some residents relocated as far as Kilkenny.

Kfm has learned that 350 Ukrainians will be accommodated at Floods Cross just outside Naas from this Thursday.

The Department of Justice has confirmed the facility, located in the townland of Newhall, will reopen as a designated 90-day accommodation centre for new arrivals seeking State housing support.

The site - previously dismantled earlier this year - had seen some residents relocated as far as Kilkenny.

Naas Independent Councillor Bill Clear has described the move as “a waste of money.”

He says while he understands people are fleeing war, the facility could have been retained to house essential workers.

Social Democrats Cllr. Chris Pender has previously called on Kildare County Council to re-purpose the site and use it as emergency accommodation for homeless people and frontline workers.

Department of Justice documents seen by kfm detail how the centre will include prefab living quarters, catering and laundry facilities.

Residents are expected to stay only for a number of weeks before moving to independent accommodation.

In terms of school places, the document states: "Due to the short term nature of this accommodation facility, children will only be in residence for short durations. It is likely that families will await securing their own independent accommodation before settling children in schools."

PPSNs will be provided through the Department of Social Protection (DSP) and people can make an application for a PPSN on arrival into the CityWest Convention Centre.
