A party spokesperson has confirmed it received an application from its former leader for membership which was accepted.
Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has rejoined Fianna Fáil.
Ahern resigned in 2012 as Micheál Martin was making moves to expel him over the findings of the Mahon Tribunal.
A party spokesperson has confirmed it received an application from its former leader for membership which was accepted.
In statements to Kfm Radio, Fianna Fail representatives in Kildare have welcomed Mr Ahearn rejoining the party.
TD for Kildare North James Lawless said "Bertie Ahern brings a wealth of experience and networks with him and is widely sought out for his thoughts by all parties across this island and beyond. He has contributed significantly to the debates on Brexit, on the Northern Ireland Protocol, on EU-UK relationships and many related issues."
It is fitting that he rejoins the party on the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement which he negotiated. He has had his issues in the past and he has served ten years penance outside the party as a result. It was right that he stood back when he did and it is right that he now rejoins."
"He has rejoined the party as an ordinary member, no more and no less. As a party we are in the business of accepting new members not rejecting them." Lawless concluded.
Party Senator Fiona O'Loughlin had similar views when asked about the news.
"There are many people alive today because of the Good Friday agreement which never would have come into place without him (and of course acknowledging others like John Hume, David Trimble, Martin McGuinness and Tony Blair)"
He is trusted and respected by all sides in NI, and continues to work on reconciliation measures within Northern Communities.
As Labour Minister and Taoiseach, he worked tirelessly with Unions to support workers, and also ensure no strikes."
