The report revealed that Kildare spent the most on cleaning up illegal dumping out of 25 local authorities
Kildare County Council spent the most out of 25 local authorities in 2025 in terms of illegal dumping.
A report from Irish Country Living, found that €535,877 was spent on cleaning up illegal dumping in Kildare in 2025.
Anti-dumping initiative funding accounted for €39,083.
The number of prosecutions or fines for illegal dumping was 18.
The figures were acquired from Freedom of Information (FOI) requests of the various local authorities.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Jacqueline Hogge, investigative journalist with Irish Country Living, spoke about the findings:
"I didn't expect [for figures] to be as high for one single county, unfortunately Kildare is leading the posse, which I'm sure nobody wants to hear."
However, she did say that there was a silver lining, despite the figures:
"What I will say is that the local authority are pro-active in trying to catch those responsible. There are several counties spending in excess of €400,000."
She also noted that the number of prosecutions or fines made for illegal dumping in Kildare was "mid-range" in terms of other counties, which was a positive to take.
