The rollout will begin in special schools, with mainstream schools to follow from the 2026–27 school year.
Children with additional needs will receive therapy supports directly in their schools under a new national scheme, with 45 special schools included in the first phase.

In Kildare, five schools are included in the first phase: St Raphael’s Special School, Stepping Stones Special School, Saplings Special School, Craddockstown Special School and St Anne’s Special School.
The Department of Education says the service will complement existing HSE supports, not replace them, with therapists working directly in schools to support children’s learning and participation.
Further schools to be added as the service rolls out nationwide.
