President Michael D. Higgins in attendance
President Michael D. Higgins, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar, Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney, Justice Minister Helen McEntee, SDLP leader Colum Eastwood and a representative of the Taoiseach Micheal Martin, were among the mourners in Allenwood this afternoon, for the funeral of former Fine Gael TD & Minister, Austin Currie.
The 82 year-old former MP died at his home in Derrymullen on Tuesday.
A service took place at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, in the village, where Kildare South TD, & Junior Minister Martin Heydon also attended.
A removal to the Currie home place in Mullaghmarget, Tyrone will take place this evening, arriving for approximately 7pm.
Removal on Saturday morning to arrive at St. Malachy's Church, Edendork for mass at 11am.
Mass will be live streamed on St. Malachy's Church webcam live stream.
Kildare County Council have opened a book of condolences, which is available to sign on the website.
The co-founder of the SDLP is survived by his wife of 53 years, Annita, children Estelle, Caitríona, Dualta, Austin Óg and Emer, siblings & extended family.
