Kfm received a tip off saying that Garda checkpoints were carried out.
Car boots were searched, and a low-flying helicopter was seen circling the area.
Speaking about the incident, Labour Cllr on the Athy MD Aoife Breslin said: "It is absolutely deplorable that resources that are badly needed have been used by somebody making a prank call.
She continued: "I will be asking for a full investigation. These people are hard working, are on the front line, and they're taken away from another situation. Given the man power, resources and money required, this is not good enough. People already comment on how resources are tight."
This incident comes as emergency services and Garda resources prepare for a busy Halloween tonight.
Emergency services are appealing to the public to take extra precaution during Halloween celebrations.
Meanwhile, Unions are also raising concerns for the safety of frontline workers being sent to emergencies.
