"People should not have to go through losing a family member to know there is something wrong with our roads," Oliver Moyles said.
Stricter penalties for distracted driving need to be implemented.
That's according to Oliver Moyles, from the Curragh, whose 24-year-old daughter Kate died in a motorway pile-up during foggy conditions in 2007 on the M7.
He said drivers using their phone or other streaming services while driving should lose their license.
Last week, Kfm highlighted how there is no law in place for 'distracted driving'.
"It breaks my heart," Oliver said. "Young people should be educated on road safety in transition year."
He said schools are the ideal settings to start educating people around road safety.
"The amount of distractions in cars now because of all the technology is crazy," he said.
"People should not have to go through losing a family member to know there is something wrong with our roads."
His comments came following a discussion on road safety this morning on Kildare Today.
Kate died when her Volkswagen Polo collided with the rear of a fire engine which was in traffic on the M7.
Emergency service personnel described a scene of 'mayhem' on the morning of the traffic pile-up.
Over 22 collisions occurred involving more than 70 cars on the day in question.
Kate had dropped off her five-year-old daughter Ella to school and was on her way to work at the Sallins Medical Centre in dense fog.
She crashed into the back of a fire engine which had been called to the pile-up on the M7.
Oliver said motorists using their phone or streaming content should have their license removed.
