Housing activity has fallen to its lowest level in almost a decade.
Yesterday, the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage published the commencement data for December 2025.
3,065 units were commenced, an increase on the previous month where 1,533 units were started.
Data for Kildare shows that 607 new homes were commenced in Kildare in 2025, lower than the number of housing units commenced in 2024.
The total amount of units commenced nationally in 2025 was 16,412.
69,000 notices were received in 2024, boosted by temporary incentives, including waived development levies and water connection rebates.
However, the Department of Housing says more than 85,000 notices were received across 2024 and 2025 combined, over 40 percent higher than the previous two years.
